Trick or Treat at Dandelions

Lots of our customers got in the holiday spirit and ordered their flowers in costume! We had trick-or-treat candy for the young (or just young at heart). Our staff here at Dandelions also enjoyed the festive weekend with get-ups of all kinds.

Dandelions Staff at the October Trade Show

Dandelions set up a booth for the Emerald Executive Association Trade Show highlighting some of our new products, beautiful tropical flowers, and Pink Ribbon Collection. We gave away anthuriums and sampled our very delicious smelling Naked Bee lotion. The trade show had a Western theme (hence the cowboy hats) and everyone had a great time.

2010 Eugene’s Best Boss Winner

Our 2nd Annual Eugene’s Best Boss contest brought in lots of entries! Thank you to everyone who nominated their boss…there were so many deserving nominees!

2010 Winners Dr. Park, Sandy Park, Melissa Bain (not pictured) and their nominating staff!

Our grand prize went to Dr. John Park, Sandy Park, and Melissa Bain of Oregon Family Dental. The staff who nominated them had such wonderful words about their leaders. Here are a few excerpts:

Shirley prepares to present the Bosses at Oregon Family Dental with their grand prize

“Our bosses are the best! They go above and beyond to make each one of us feel like family…Melissa doesn’t believe she’s a ‘boss’. She is not a boss; she is our team leader. Melissa’s energy drives all of us to perform to the best of our abilities…Amazing in an understatement!John and Sandy truly treat us as an extension of their family. They care about each and every staff member and their family members as a whole…When I witness all of the goodness [the Parks] share with others, it makes me want to be that much better of a person”

In addition, top finalist honors were also gifted to Shannon Conley & Judy Byrne of Agate Health Care and Larry Sullivan of the Eugene School District 4J.

Gilliand Bayney Wedding

The wedding of Darci Gilliand and Carl Bayney on September 18, 2010 was a beautiful event. Dandelions Flowers designer, Julianne, created an elegant look using dahlias, calla lilies, dendrobium orchids, and curving foliages of bear grass and aspidistra leaves. This  at-home wedding in Eugene, Oregon had an intimate reception dinner with round bowls that held white dahlias with bear grass circles. This look is very simple yet undeniably elegant. The bride accented her wedding with a crisp, clean blue to add a pop of color.

Our congratulations to the happy couple, Darci and Carl. Thank you for letting us help you on your big day!

Locally Grown Flowers

We are proud to carry throughout the year a large variety of locally grown flowers and foliages for our floral designs.  In the next few weeks we will introduce you to some of our growers so that you can learn more about the “behind the scenes” of these wonderful fresh local products.    Nancy was just here bringing us our fresh Oregon Dahlias this morning, and our shipment of Oregon lilies and greenery also just arrived to start our week.

Oregon has a great climate for growing and some of many seasonal flowers we carry that are locally and Oregon grown are: Dahlias, Tulips, Sunflowers Asiatic Lilies, Calla Lilies, Iris, Delphinium, glads, zinnias and yarrows, just to name a few.  We even grow on our own farm, some of the ribbon grasses, yarrow, liatris and zinnias during the summer season.

During this fall season we are carrying seasonal mini pumpkins from Springfield, and many of the native grasses and foliages such as Oregonia, Myrtle, Huckleberry, Nandina, Eucaplytus, Cattails and wheat. Charles and Bethany Little grow & supply us with many fabulous native and unique foliages, and Dancing Lizard farms in Junction City

provide a rich variety of unique Semperviums that we use in unique lasting floral bouquets.  Watch in the next few weeks for highlights about some of our local Oregon family growers that we buy from to make your fresh floral bouquets.

Green Trick Carnations

One of the really cool new green flowers that is coming on the market is the “Green Trick” Carnation.  I saw these at the Society of American Florists New Varieties competition in Phoenix last year and we also carried some here at Dandelions just this past week.  They are wonderful if you like fun bold designs and a unique look.  Everyone will say “what is that?”  It does not look like a typical carnation at all.

This flower is definitely the hot flower for the season!!

Green Trick  has an exceptionally long vase life of 2 to 4 weeks and is extremely versatile. A favorite for weddings, modern arrangements and bouquets, corporate and event work. The availability of the Green Trick Carnation is best in Spring and Summer and slightly limited in Autumn and Winter.

Take a look at this fun new flower!!!  It’s not your grandmas flower anymore!

Eugene Florist wins National Marketing Award

We are proud at Dandelions Flowers to have been awarded the National 2010 Floral Outstanding Marketing & Promotions Award, presented by Florist Review magazine and the Whoelsale Florist & Forist Supplier Association (WF&FSA).

This annual award is a part of the National Retail Florist of the Year contest, of which we were runnerup in 2010. It was a great honor to have been nominated and then a true surprise to have been awarded this prestigous award.

Pardon our bragging, but thought you may like to know!

We always strive to keep our customers abreast of the beauty and emotional power of flowers, and enjoy keeping up on the new technology and web applications that make this possible.
