So much attention is spend around Valentine’s Day on couples- from new relationships to those who have been married for 50 years. Love isn’t just reserved for sweethearts, though. Love could, and should, be expressed between any meaningful relationship.
It always makes our staff say “awwww” when a dad sends a special Valentine to his daughter letting her know that she will forever be his princess. A simple, sweet budvase or candy and bear package is perfect for a school-age child. For a daughter in college we like a mixed arrangement or a modern design that will be the talk of the dorm. Valentine’s flowers for mom, grandma or sisters is also a common variation for this “love” holiday.
And don’t forget…men like flowers, too! There is no rule that flowers are only for women and we send flowers to men every day. So there is no reason to mope if you happen to be single this Feb. 14- celebrate the love that is all around you!

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer with barbeques, camping and family get-togethers. Amidst all of the fun it can be easy to forget the true purpose of this national holiday.
Originally termed “Decoration Day”, Memorial Day began just after the Civil War as a way to remember and honor soldiers killed in battle by decorating their graves with flowers. Today it continues to honor men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military.
A wonderful way to commemorate the holiday is to visit a cemetery to decorate headstones with flowers. Dandelions Flowers & Gifts has partnered with Frank Adams Wholesale Florist, Inc. in Portland in conjunction with the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation to provide complementary roses for visitors to lay on graves this Memorial Day Weekend. These roses will be at both West Lawn Memorial Park and Lane Memorial Gardens while supplies last.
Join us in giving honor and remembering those who died to protect you.

Christmas is my favorite season. I love the decorations, the lights, the music, the smell. As soon as the Thanksgiving turkey is made into leftovers I am pulling out our Christmas decorations and hopefully inspiring the same love of the Christmas season in my 4 year old daughter. Since we don’t have a fireplace she thinks Santa comes to the door and says “ding dong” to bring her presents!
Fresh flowers and plants make the holidays even brighter. Oregon is blessed to have a wide variety of fresh holiday greenery that bring the wonderful smell of Christmas to life. These days we meet requests for holiday flowers for everything from traditional centerpieces to fun and modern arrangements. Don’t hesitate to try something different this year! Here’s a little inspiration to get you started…
Here in the United States there is such a variety of “holidays” that it is hard to keep track of them all. Bosses Day (October 16th) and by extension, Bosses Week, is one worth noting on your calendar every year, no matter what kind of workplace environment you are employed in. A gift from the office could really mean a lot to your boss. It doesn’t have to be expensive- we have lots of budget friendly gift ideas including plants, flowers, chocolates and Duck gift baskets.
If your employer is the kind that really works hard to create a positive work environment and shows leadership and care for his / her staff, let them know, and make it a great day at the office!
Last week, Julianne spent her days revamping our sales floor, and now that it looks fantastic, I thought I’d give you a peak!

It’s quickly approaching that time year when we celebrate the wonderful women in our lives we call “Mom.” Every year, the Saturday morning before Mother’s Day, we open our store to as many children who will come and help them create their very own personal mini-floral arrangements to present to Mom the next morning.
This year, the 18th year of this annual event, Make it for Mom will be Saturday, May 10th from 10:30am to noon. The kids will have a marvelous time making arrangements with a personal touch that only they can add; the adults will receive a $5.00 in-store coupon to go towards any purchases they make that day; and any donations we receive will go 100% to the Relief Nursery.
Mark your calendar so you and your kids don’t miss out.
Mothers are extraordinary. They’re not super heroes with an abundance of super-human abilities, but they could fool us. Because we’re around them all the time, it’s easy to take them – and their seeming super-powers – for granted.
The truth is we know how human they are, but these ordinary, every-day women find it within themselves to love, give and sacrifice in ways that can astound us.
Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to thank our moms and show them that we recognize how special they are and appreciate all they do for us. And to make this year’s occasion even more unforgettable, you can put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and enter your super-Mom into the 4th annual Eugene’s Favorite Mom contest. All you have to do is tell us about your mom (or the mother figure in your life) and what makes her amazing.
The entry deadline is Wednesday, May 7th.
The Grand Prize winner will be awarded by Sunday, May 11th, and wins the following:
A plaque announcing her as Eugene’s Favorite Mom 2014
A beautiful floral arrangement, balloons and a $50.00 gift certificate from Dandelions Flowers & Gifts
A bottle of their 2010 Voignier and a Sweet Cheeks Tank top from Sweet Cheeks Winery
