An update on blue ribbons for Chris Kilcullen

The outpouring of support for Eugene Police Officer Chris Kilcullen has been so amazing. We handed out over 2500 blue ribbons yesterday and thousands more today!

All the blue magnetic ribbons we had have quickly gone out the door. We are hoping to get more but will keep the community updated if they arrive.

Arriving tomorrow morning are 350 blue bracelets inscribed with “Ofc. C.  Kilcullen 4-22-11”. These will be sold for $4 and all profits will go to the Chris Kilcullen Memorial Fund at Oregon Community Credit Union.

Honoring Eugene Police Officer Chris Kilcullen

Eugene has suffered such a tragedy over the weekend with the fatal shooting of Eugene Police Officer Chris Kilcullen. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, family and friends.

A call has been made to wear blue in remembrance of Chris Kilcullen and all officers who have died in the line of duty. Here at Dandelions we are wearing blue ribbons in remembrance and are offering free blue ribbons to all who would like one.  At least 100 have already been picked up this morning and individuals have shared sweet stories of how they were connected to Chris Kilcullen.  There are those, too, who may not have known him personally but are showing their respect by donning a ribbon.

Feel free to stop by Dandelions at 1710 Chambers St., Eugene, OR and take a ribbon with you.

And, while this earth sign’s also known for its well-grounded, practical sensibilities, they harbor an equally strong love for beautiful things, pleasure and comfort that enjoys being indulged.

Birth Sign Flower: Cater to the Taurus’s appreciation for nature’s exquisite beauty with flowers that appeal to their full range of senses – like a flower bouquet showcasing majestic lilies. Spring flower of the moment: Tulips

Although tulips can be procured year-round, spring is really their time to shine.  Spring makes its grand entrance as tulips begin to pop up from the ground. Here at Dandelions we carry tulips grown here in Oregon from Greengable Gardens in Philomath. Tulips have an elegant feel to them & they also appeal to those with an artistic flair. Since they continue to grow after they are cut, tulips truly becoming living art as their blossoms open and their stems elongate & curve.

Tulips range in color from green to deep purple

Parrot tulips are popular in spring bridal bouquets

These are "Peony Tulips" that are gorgeous!

Easter spring bulbs

Easter is very late this year (April 24!) but no so late that great spring bulbs have passed. Oregon has a wonderful spring season with a variety of bulb flowers that look as beautiful on the table as they do in the ground. My favorites include: daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, lilacs

Daffodils:

These bright pops of yellow can be seen as early as February here in Eugene, OR and are a most welcome sign that spring is on its way.  Fresh-cut daffodils release a sap that is harmful to other flowers so arrange them in their own vase.  If you want to include them with other flowers allow them to soak overnight in cool, clean water so that the daffodils have a chance to release some of this substance.

Tulips:

These graceful buds are one of my favorite because they continue to grow after cut! In a single day they can grow the length of their head!! The tulip fields pictured left are almost unreal they are so beautiful.

Hyacinth:

For fragrance lovers, hyacinth are a dream come true. Their little bell-like blossoms emit a most wonderful smell and their big, full blossoms fill out a vase nicely.

Ranunculus:

Although every bride wants this flower in their bridal bouquet it is really a spring bloomer. At times they look like mini peonies and at other times they resemble spray roses. Since they are available until May we are using them a lot here in the store as prom rings!

Prom Corsages

Prom season is here!! Beyond the dress and the date the corsage is the next biggest part of prom! Corsages have come SO FAR from our Grandma’s corsage that they are truly a work of art. Many girls still opt for a traditional style corsage but maybe that is because they don’t know what the possibilities are. I’ve compiled some fabulous ideas (notice…none of them contain babies breath) to give you some inspiration. If there is one in particular you like, print it out and bring it in!!

You’ll notice that many of these are not even corsages but body jewelry. If you’re a trend-setter check out the fresh floral rings. These are all the rage this spring! And I didn’t forget the boys. Give them something fun to wear too!!
