Have you heard about International Women’s Day? I know it’s easy to dismiss it as ‘just another silly holiday’, but stay with me – it really is an important day. International Women’s Day is on March 8th every year. It is a day to take time to be thankful for the advancements women have made in the past century and to be thankful for the wonderful women in our lives. It is a day to tell all the women that are important to you how much they mean to you. We all know that women work hard. Female teachers, stay at home mothers, grandmothers, friends, daughters, coworkers, neighbors, and any other amazing women you have in your life all deserve to be told “Thank you”. Tell them how much you love them, and send a pretty bouquet of flowers – I promise it will make the day of the woman you send it to.
Here at Dandelions Flowers and Gifts LLC, we want to start a new tradition. We would love to have you post on our wall a picture of an amazing woman in your life and a brief description of what makes her so incredible. Is she great at lifting you up when you’re feeling down? Does she work hard to take care of others? Is her resilience or spirit strong? Women’s Day is the perfect time to tell her how much she means to you!
Happy International Women’s Day!
Just around the corner (March 8) is International Women’s Day, a day to give recognition and honor to women throughout the world both past and present. First celebrated in 1908 International Women’s Day has gained traction as each generation of women has continued the fight for equality and show how remarkable a woman can be.
Valentine’s Day is for sweethearts and Mother’s Day is for moms but what about all the other amazing women who may not fall into these categories (or do, but still could use some extra praise)? Around the world many people give flowers are small gifts to show their appreciation for the women in their lives. We are certainly proud of Dandelions owner, Shirley Lyons, who was honored as the 2010 Eugene Chamber Woman Business Leader of the Year as is currently serving as the FIRST female president of the Society of American Florists in its 129 year history.
The theme for this year’s Women’s Day is “Inspiring Change” reminding us that although women have made leaps and bounds in the United States and much of Europe there is still a shocking amount of inequality throughout much of the world. Let’s take stock of our blessings, give honor to the women in our lives and encourage change to take effect world-wide.
Send flowers to work or at home or you can even stop by and choose a few stems yourself to hand to a friend, wife, mother, co-worker, neighbor, care-taker. The list goes on. Celebrate the women in your life!
